Alfred Muszynski is an artist based in Montreal, Canada.
This series of paintings was born out of a search to find the spiritual and magical hidden within the eclecticism of internet vernacular. My project takes for granted that the internet and its visual language act as a conduit for long lasting occult traditions, whether consciously enacted or not. In this series, each painting acts as a sigil, embodying a unique aspect of our digital collective unconscious. Aesthetically, I drew in part from the world of red chip art, its vibrant colors, cartoonish style and disregard for the sanctity of images. I wondered what would happen if I allowed myself to make art with low discernment, i.e. what if I loved all images equally. I believe there might yet be solace to be found in learning to love the slop and embracing this new kitsch. Sourcing from many styles and esoteric traditions, this project embraced breadth over focus in the hope that clarity would emerge from an overdose on content. The resulting paintings were installed as something in between an altar and a life-size diagram, a space teeming with mysticism, humor and fortuitous connections.
